EBookME is a simple, open-source application that allows the creation of e-books which can be read on mobile phones and other portable devices with supports for the JME (Java Micro Edition) technology.

It basically generates Java ME e-books (JAD, JAR) from input text files.

EBookME is very simple to use: just add the text files that contain the input books, provide names and description where necessary and you may create the Java ME application with that book right away. Both JAR and JAD files can be created. I also like that it supports inputting more than just plain text files – it also supports HTML documents, OpenOffice.org files, PDFs (imported by PDFBox), etc.

Anyway, probably the most important advantage of this application is that it makes the e-books readable even on devices that don’t provide a standalone e-book reading application, separated from data files. It makes use of the powerful Java-based technology to store the reading application and the data in one archive file (the Java archive).

As you can see, this tool is a great freeware for anyone interested in being able to read e-books even on mobile phones and devices with no native support for this functionality.
